I am new to Bowhunting and I am looking for a little bit of advice when it comes to stand placement. I have scouted out my area quite thouroughly and have found elk beds and crap three times along with deer sign. I placed up a trail camera and had a couple of pictures of cow elk and some deer, one nice muley buck.
The area in question is in a small open area with a few large trees in the middle, would you place a stand on one of the trees in the middle of the open area or back in the bush surrounding the open area. I am going to place stand up this week.

I really appreciate all your help.

Good luck to everyone

I would look for a funnell back in the bush that concentrates game in one central location, this could be anything from a saddle in a hill or a finger of trees that leads through an open area. Elk and deer like to move in areas where they will not likely be seen. Also holes in fences and river crossings that are shallow can also work. Any place lis where i would hang a stand.

Is there water in the trees???? If so set up in there.. If not all I can say is when you pick a tree look at it from the ground and make sure there is enough cover behind you so you don't stick out.....
Cut your shooting lanes low as you might think it's low enough at 2-3 feet but a deer get's behind one of the branches and sure as shit you will hit the branch so cut them too the ground..... Have fun...
