View Full Version : Limb Bolt Wrenches?

I was wondering what wrench I should get for limb bolt adjustment? I suspect I need something specialized. I'm having trouble finding any wrenches that fit my Parker Bow perfectly. It's supposed to take a 3/16 Allen but every one I tried wouldn't fit perfectly. One I tried wouldn't even go in and the closest I could find is one in 3/16 is one that goes half way down the slot so to turn the limb bolt I have to push down hard on the wrench to keep it from slipping out as I'm turning. It looks like it needs a slight taper. I tried an Industrial tool store and nothing they had in various styles and sizes would fit properly. Thanks guys. :)

Contact your closest proshop and have them take a look at the limb bolts. Any standard allen cluster (Bondus makes a great set) should work. Some time the limb bolts are tight for the first couple of times to have to adjust, but it should get better over time. In extreme cases the limb bolts have to be replaced as the orginals maybe defective. A proshop would be able to change them out for you if needed.

Thanks! :)

The Limb Bolt is on my Parker Hornet 2. Does seem really tight turning. I have found a 3/16 allen that works but its really tight in the slots, and the slots are shallow so the wrench pops out easily as I'm turning. It seems like the wrench is still going only halfway down. And the part of the wrench that goes in is so tight fitting I have to wiggle it to get it out.

I just bought a second Parker, a Legend ,and the 3/16 allen wrench fits just a little better though the slots seem kind of shallow too .

More than likely it is the style of limb bolt parker is using. Check for a setscrew that may lock the limb bolt in place or one that locks the pivot movement of the limb pocket. Alot of bow companies use this on their bows. I'm not familar with Parker, but it should say something in the manual if they use this style of lock. You could also try contacting Parker thru their website as most companies have a forum deicated to thier customers. In most cases someone using their product can give you better advice. Good luck.

It could be a couple things. (as been mentioned)
If your bow has limb bolt lock screws, they need to be backed out a couple turns before trying to turn the limb bolts. If it has limb bolt lock screws & you try to turn the limb bolts, you can damage the limb bolt threads. (cause the threads to get stripped). I have seen this a few times when fixxing bows at the shop.
Another thing could be the limb bolts don't have enough grease on them, this wouldn't be the first time it's happened. (need to take bow apart to check this)
Another thing it could be is the design of the riser-limb bolt area, to where the angle is just off the little bit to cause them to be snug, nothing can be done about it except brute force to move the limb bolts. (we've seen this on bows as well at the shop).

Due to you can't get the allen key in the limb bolt head far enough, might need to get new limb bolts. Sometimes we have been able to fix the original limb bolts.

Get a hold of the the store you bought the bow, explain the allen key won't go in all the way & see if they can get new limb bolts for you or contact Parker themselves. Then get a proshop to install them for you.

Hope this helps.
