Alright Gang ... I'm putting this out there to determine interest. I'll be sending out some e-mails to clubs as well.

I'm looking at getting certified as a Coach for Archery with the NCCP program.

I've contacted Larry Kelly with the ATAA who's responsible for teaching the courses and here's what he's relayed to me.

To hold a course it's a full weekend commitment. Typically 3 hrs Friday, 8 hours Saturday, and 8 hours Sunday. Ideal course size is 8 to 10 people. It's a combination of classroom and range activities so the facility would have to have access to both ideally. The course is the Instructors- Beginner Course (see below). For Albertan's, Larry has indicated that the ATAA is covering costs of the course. He doesn't have a guaranteed weekend available ... but has asked for a selection of dates in April/May to work with. I've got approximately 3 people for sure in GP and a facility that would meet our requirements.

*please note that the course doesn't have to be held in GP ... we can move it elsewhere if it makes it easier for attendees, just so long as someone else will help me in coordinating a facility to hold it at*

So my questions to those interested (and you can reply here or PM me):

Are you (or others) interested in taking the course?
Which of the following weekends in April or May work for you?
(I've removed 3D Nationals/Target Provincials & Shoot For Cause weekends).
- April 16-17
- April 23-25
- May 7-9
- May 14-15
- May 21-23
- May 28-30

Can you attend in GP? Or would you rather it be hosted in a different location?

OK ... there's been 94 views ... and NO responses!!!

Is the time just bad for everyone? Or is there no interest at all?

I'd appreciate knowing ... cause if no one else in Alberta is interested ... I may try heading to another province if they're hosting a session.

In the spruce gove area, remington, Linda and rod took the course a few months back. Larry facilited the course and Allen Chatten assisted. It's a great course. A little dry in spots but good overall.

fairly convinced that PG is putting one on this year as well

just a question for those that have done this recently ....

How has the program changed from years ago when the NCCP program was of 5 levels ...level one consited of Theory, Tech and Practical .... 2 weekends of theory and tech (1 each) and then 100 hours of logged practical exp. to get your certification. level 2 and up were tech and prac .... levels 1-3 were geared to local to provincial athletes culminating with nat champs level ... levels 4 and 5 were geared to the international level ... Commewealth games , Pan Pacs , Olympics etc...

and has the archery section adapted the 8 hour ethics course yet? if not they will as all sports are over the 5 years evidently .... and apparently your coaching certification is worthless without it ... Swimming and 5 pin bowling have and lemme tell ya ... its 8 hours of your life that you will never get back...since i havent coached competive swimming in 15 years I am not taking it .... I took it for 5 pin bowling as i might get back into that one day

I'd be interested in knowing ... however Lloyd is a bit away for me ... and I do have 5 people at my own club that are interested. So I'd probably say pass, and then host one locally.

Thanks for the info though!

Can't speak to how it relates to the old course.

But the ethics portion is tested online with the NCCP ... and since it runs consistent with all other coaching courses I'm going to assume it's the same.
