why are we lousing our top shooters..I`am not just talking about the bowzone but 3d shooters in general.....in my area there`s some really good 3d shooters that have basically quit . they still hunt. but will not shoot any 3d.

so why is their such a high mortality rate with 3d shooters ??

have you read some of the threads in the 3D section?......

Of course...Some are quiting cause of the bickering.

But 3d seems to have a lot of guys that burn out ...more then other shooting sports..why???

Before I got too busy with family and work I tryed to hit all the 3-D's but life happens, things are going great for me now with finances and family so I just may have to get into it more and now bring family too.:super_hap

I have noticed some top shooters move to targets/spots. At the end of the day the shooting part is in some ways more challenging, and there is a lot less downtime, and it is easier to practice if you have any space at all.

I like the whole unmarked yardage thing, but if you have a decent handle on that you are just executing shots.

I'm not a top shooter by any means...but I've been out of the outdoor/indoor for the last while just due to being so bloody busy! James (coolkid (my son)) will be starting the indoor here again soon and are going to make as many outdoor shoots as we can this year. Finally seeing the light and able to get away a bit more!

Who's taken a break but will be getting back into it this year??

Its not that we are losing them just different things come along in life...

This year I my two oldest boys had a hockey tournament on the same weekend as the Mother and we were hosting the tournament so had to take my turn volunteering. When I first started 3d I really enjoyed it and got into it and then life just got busy and was able to get back in a few years ago...

Now life has changed again and four boys, family and making a living take up lots of my time. Getting out ice-fishing and doing other stuff on weekends means that I cannot go to as many shoots as I used to.

Many of the ones who reduce their activity usually come back. I also remember why I got into 3D. It was mostly for hunting practice. Times have also changed. In past clubs used to only put out their targets for shoots so if you wanted to practice 3D you had to go to tournaments. Today most clubs have their targets out all summer so I can go out in evenings and get practice I need for bow-hunting. I still like to get to tourneys for the fun of the tourney but again time is a limited resource.

I have often pondered the same question but as time goes on I see people leave and return many times.

that is why I believe that we need to ensure we are always introducing new people to this sport and make tourneys very welcoming and friendly for newcomers. It is the sport that intrigues them it is the great people around that keep people coming back whether it is every shoot or once a year or heavy for a few years and then a hiatus in between because of life!...

it could be we're taking the fun out of the game re: timed events such as the Mother, could be all the politics and gossiip.

Hey guys

I used to think that way!
Now I dont think that the fun being taken out has much to do with it as you are making your own fun and that is what this game is about or should be about.
I have seen guys over the 25 + years I have shot archery get lost in the competitive challange and just put way to much pressure on winning and once they get to the top or near the top the added presure just folds most guys cause the fun is gone by the pressure put on ones self. after all has anyone of us cashed a check that will make us a living shooting a bow in Canada, and if you have good on you.
I quite shooting 3-D for ten years and just got back in 3 years ago trust me I know about putting pressure to win on my back and where did it get me a few bows here and there arrows ya but I was an idiot for thinking that the fun was gone!!
Now I shoot for myself, and the friends that I have meet in the last few years have made the sport of archery what it should have been all along FUN!!
Ya I know the Money thing has alot to do with it but its still cheaper to attend a local shoot then a show and popcorn on a night out.
Just get out and shoot when ever you can and have fun is what I say to everyone I talk to now if you want to win thats ok but dont forgrt to have fun.

Well said, I couldnt agree more. There are a lot of politics involved in the top level but if you dont want to deal with that, then dont. How much do YOU want to get involved? I've tried the organizing thing and got scolded by people that didn't like my ideas. Now, I shoot for me. If I happen to put up a good score, its just a bonus to the day. The fun part of 3D is socializing with your friends. Now, I find that paper really tests my skills as an archrer.

In the Okonogon archery is healthy and its creating new shooters that will start showing scores and fresh faces.

I have not been at this very long so I don't even know the veterans but i'm sure many that are raising families will come out of the wood work.

The politics usually ruin any sport for most I believe. We need to remind ourselves to have fun and not worry so much about being that 1% that actually make any money at this.
