I prefer the compound because it's just an all around better killing machine. Easier to draw and hold if you have to wait for the right second. Alot faster too! If just shooting at targets I guess either is ok but for hunting I like the compound.

I second the compound, but would never knock somebody for choosing a recurve or stickbow. :-)

Although I am a die hard compound shooter, I have just recently purchased a 1964 Redwing Hunter recurve 52# and have been doing some practicing. I would feel pretty comfortable out to about 30 yard. I am getting 196 FSP with it. This would be an early season bow for me and my compound would definitely be a later bow as it has more killing power and range. Shoot them both and see which one floats your boat.

I switched From a Compound to recurve. Why you ask? No sites to get messed up with. No arrow rest to get fowled up. No cams that Possibly could go wrong, Not likely But could.
No It is not as fast. But a recurve with 45 lb pull at 20 yards will Kill any game in North America, Bear, Moose, Buffalo, Grizz. It all depends on your setup and you confidence as an Archer. with a recurve Heavy arrows in excess of 400 Gr make up the difference. Some Are Acurate out to 40 yards, Not many but there are some. It all depends on what you feel comfortable at. Try Both. for a while and see. you might suprize your self.
