Don't rub it in - you'll both have fresh venison before I've washed my camo clothing! Deer season doesn't start until Oct 1 in my part of Ontario and I'm gonna go crazy soon.

Bears open August 15th and moose, elk, whitetail and mulies open Sept 1st for archery. I lucked out this year and got a moose draw for Sept 10 to Nov 5th for any bull. Without the draw I would have had to find an immature bull, 2 point or less. Good luck to all this fall.

I wish that I lived in an area that I could hunt that early. Where I live I have nothing to hunt like bear, moose, or any large animals. We have deer, turkeys, and coyotes. So go after them an get them. For all you young or older hunters, life is not long and your days of being able to hunt those animals with a bow or in some cases guns will get shorter because of age or health, or finance. So go for it, and do not wait and get old and then wish you had................................. We all have priorities but we need to be able to enjoy our lives, and to those of use that hunt we need this to just be happly and live. Get in shape, eat right, and stay focused..........................also take a boy or girl or adult hunting. Grandma Patty

Good luck Scott. Just do me a favor and shoot something, anything just a bit bigger than Jackass Dripper's Animals, so we can knock him down a bit!

Congrats Scotty! Thats a nice lookin deer.

Shane, you think Warden doesn't get out hunting much? You should see my freakin schedule. My season has been pretty much non existant, but I am taking a 5 day weekend this week, so hopefully I will have some good news!

Scott, does that smile get any bigger?

Well, here's the long awaited story...

Hit the bush at about 5 am...we walked in to where we were hunting, put up the stands and got ready for the hunt. 7:30 rolled around and we hadn't seen anything (about -8 C)...7:45 ish hits and bucks start funelling down the hill from the alph alpha field about 300 yards west of me on the top of the ridge (we're on the riverbottom). The buck I shot is on a doe, so Ryan called him off and got him heading our way with a couple of doe bleats and a couple of grunts.

Now the comedy ensues.....

Buck walks behind double tree that I had chosen to draw on once his head was behind it so he couldn't see me. Realized that I forgot to turn the bow down (I shoot a 75# Hoyt Supertec). Got to the hump and almost couldn't get it to come back. I put almost everything that I had into pulling that stupid bow back. (mental note: turn your bow down Scott!).

Made a perfect shot between the shoulder blade and the spine. Took out both lungs. The buck went about 50 yards and did the teeter totter and fell over.

Surprisingly enough, the other bucks that were mulling around about 70 yards away didn't spook so we stayed up in stand to see if we could bring another on in. Well, we brought another one in all right (even with the first buck being 50 yards away!) but he was just little so we let him pass.

We climed out of stand at about 9:30am, went and dressed the deer and took some pics. I have to step back a little bit here so you can grasp the rest of this part of the story. We decided that since we were driving all the way to Edmonton, we would take the car instead of the truck (economy over function) so we drug the deer out of the bush to the car. After some screwing around and decision making...we ended up cutting it in 1/2 and putting 1/2 in the trunk and 1/2 in the back seat. Talk about cramped!!

The weather was a bit chilly so we just left the deer in the car to cool and decided that we needed to have a bit of nap since we figured we earned it.

Woke up after about an hour and went back to the same bush that we were hunting in, in the morning but went to a different area. We had walked in on an atv trail and were standing at the intersection of the deer highway that we were going to walk in on and hunt the buck brush about 200 yards in. Now, let's paint the picture for you all: Ryan and I were standing there discussing our plan of attack, putting some doe scent on our boots, I had my treestand on my back, Ryans quiver in my hand (my bow was back at the car because I was tagged out) and Ryan had a treestand on his hip, and his bow in his hand, release in his pocket. I happened to look up and see the tell tale flash of a whitetail's tail coming down a little hill about 60 yards away from us. I elbowed Ryan and told him "here comes a deer!"....Well, I had no idea that in about 1 second, that one of the biggest booner bucks I have ever seen was going to come out of the trees 40 yards away and start running down the same trail that we were standing on. This buck had to have been 190+ if not more (and I'm being conservitive)....He's running full speed down the trail right for us. (I would pay $10,000.00 to see a picture of our faces at that very moment). We were in total shock..thinking that he was going to run us down, but of course not moving from where we stood. Well, this buck slid to a stop at 15 yards from us and stood there looking at us for what seemed like an hour (probably a grand total of about 4 seconds) and then bolted off the trail into the adjacent bush. UGH! We looked at each other and asked if we had seen that....We both had and came to the conclusion that we almost met our maker at the hands of the very animal that we were hunting....We almost became the hunted!

After sitting there for about a min, we witnessed the cause of the buck being on the run. 2 dogs were chasing the buck. Unreal!

Well, needless to say we never did see that buck again....Got up in the treestand after that but only saw a couple of does moving....It was a trip.
