After having the honor of shooting with Shane Olson (aka Sniper) this past weekend at the Alberta 3D Provincials, I realized that I still had alot to learn about the disipline of archery. Shane graciously offered to give some tips and coaching on proper form. His coaching, in all of about 30 minutes, taught me things that I never even had thought about before.

I have never had a bit of professional archery coaching before and I see now why it is so important to have an advanced archer teach the basics of archery when you first start in archery.

Now my question is , how many of you have ever had professional archery coaching, or are you self taught?

I am self taught...But I will be spending some time with Shane and the good folks down south this year and get them to fine tune my shooting.

I haven't been truly coached.........however I was fortunate enough to have some great guidance when I picked up the sport. I'm just now (2 more days) hitting my 2 year anniversary of picking up a bow, and so far have excelled with it way past my own expectations. I truly believe that this is because I was shown from day 1 how to properly shoot. Jim from Jim Bows Archery was my "coach" from the beginning. I owe a great debt of gratitude to him for showing me the basics and for him taking the time to show them to me properly. When shown properly at the beginning you don't pick up any (many???) bad habits that you have to break.......mind you I still have a couple of small ones. :-)
