This is posted to pay tribute to my Childhood friend Sgt. James D. Schmidt who was killed Jul 17th., 1970 in Vietnam.
I was fortunate to visit the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall today. It was set up in the city park just 3 blocks from my house, so it was easy to get my rear in gear and go visit.
The wall has been setup for the past 3 days and something has been nagging at me to go to pay my respects to all of those Brave Young Men that died in that Aweful War. Especially, my Friend Jim.
When I got to the site of the wall, I was Awe Struck and Totally Overwhelmed by it's presence. There are so many names on that huge wall that I had to go to the locator booth to find which panel of the wall his name was on.
I told the Veteran that was looking the names up for people that I had a strange feeling and compulsion to visit the wall today. When we looked up Jim's name we were both immediately shocked by what we saw! I had totally forgotten when Jim was killed in Nam. We looked at the date and it was exactly 34 years ago TODAY!
No Wonder I was compelled to see the wall today! Even after all these years, Jim and I still share the bond that we developed as youngsters. We grew up together, went to school together, we were Eagle Scouts together and we rode Motorcycles together.
I guess we are still together, I do know that as long as I live I will never forget my Dear Friend!
Jim, I sure do miss you buddy and I hope that you are watching me type this tribute to you!
May You Rest Peacefully and be with Our Lord and Savior! I love you pal and miss you! Thank you for Sacrificing Your Life for Our Country!
